First of all, I am so excited to be the Leafy Greens Ambassador for Nature’s Greens and WP Rawl. 2016 marks the beginning of our journey together where we will make small changes to lead a healthier lifestyle and I am excited that you are in for the ride! So let’s get started and talk about clean eating.
What Is Clean Eating?
Using the word ‘clean’ in relation to eating may seem like a new trend, but I first heard the reference in the early 1990s. At that time shoppers tended to look at numbers on food packaging, like calories, and fat grams. But a new wave of consumers began looking beyond the nutrition facts, straight to the ingredients list, and they didn’t always like what they saw. Notions about where food comes from, how it’s produced, what’s in it, and why prompted health-conscious eaters to ask questions about ingredients. What they wanted to see was clear – words they recognized, could pronounce, and felt good about putting into their bodies and their children’s mouths. And hence the clean eating movement was born.
Today there is no single definition of the term, but to me it involves eating foods as close to their natural state as possible. Think fresh and imagine the big picture of how what we eat impacts human and environmental health. When healthy eaters purchase a food that comes in a package they want to see single ingredients, or ingredients that read like a recipe, not a science experiment. In a nutshell, clean eating or eating fresh, is about honoring the connection between what we eat and how we feel, and choosing foods that energize, nourish, and support the planet. If this resonates with you we hope you’ll keep tuning into ‘Back to Fresh!’.
Throughout the year we’ll provide recipes, tips, and info to help you embrace healthy eating, and feel fantastic, all while eating meals you’ll look forward to. Welcome to a fresh 2016!
